Ex-Philadelphia Eagle-turned-magician, comedian Steven Wright to open State Theatre season

A former Philadelphia Eagles football player-turned-magician who captivated audiences of the television show “America’s Got Talent” and an Academy Award-winning comedian will kick off the 92nd season at the State Theatre in Easton, it was announced Wednesday.

Jon Dorenbos, the Eagles long snapper who finished third on “America’s Got Talent,” will perform at the State at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 21.

Opening the State Theatre season at 8 p.m. Sept. 7 will be Steven Wright, the dry and wry comic who won the Oscar for Best Short Film, Live Action, in 1988 for “The Appointments of Dennis Jennings.”

Tickets, at $29 for Wright and $49 and $59 for An Evening with Jon Dorenbos: Magic, Football & Comedy, go on sale to theater members 10 a.m. June 28 and to the public at 10 a.m. July 5 at the box office, 453 Northampton St., Easton, at 800-999-STATE or www.statetheatre.org.

The shows are the first announced for the theater’s new season. The rest of the season is expected to be announced June 27, with all other tickets going on sale to theater members at 6 a.m. Aug. 1 and 10 a.m. Aug. 15 to the public.
